Team Orion are reporting on their success at last weeks ROAR electric buggy nationals held at Hot Rod Hobbies in Saugus, California. Throughout qualifying defending Champion Ryan Cavalieri proved he was the man to beat by TQ’ing all three of the modified classes. In the Modified Truck Class Cavalieri went on to take full advantage of his TQ position by checking out on the field in the first two A-Mains giving him his 1st National Title of the weekend. In the 2wd Modified Class Cavalieri won leg 1 by 6 seconds but a mistake in leg 2 meant he had it all to do in leg 3. At the tone Cavalieri started out with a fast pace pulling out a small lead on the field and making no mistakes, to take the leg win and overall title. In the 4wd Modified Class RC ended up finishing a very respectable second overall behind Ryain Maifield, having won A-main 1, then ended up finishing a very close second place to team mate Maifield in the last two A-mains.

Along with the modified class run at the 4th round of the BRCA touring car nationals in Halifax last weekend, the guys in the Pro Stock class was also in action. Qualifying saw Championship leader Glenn Westwood, racing the new Schumacher Mi3.5, who took the overall TQ in the variable weather conditions ahead of Dominic Carter and Byron Humphries. Conditions for the finals were also varied and with some super fast pit work on several occasions Dominic Carter got it right and chose the correct tyres to take home the first two legs of the A in fine style. Glenn Westwood needed to secure a good last run to take the overall championship as winning here was not enough for Dom to win the title. Glenn responded to the pressure with a win in leg three’s dry conditions to give him 2nd overall for the meeting which was enough to crown him BRCA Pro Stock Champion for 2008.
