2nd African Cup GP report

The 2nd African Cup GP On Road event took place recently and combined with it the IFMAR Pre Worlds Large scale discipline. The event saw 2 Australian drivers make the trip over to the race, which created a lot more excitement for the 1/8th discipline on it’s own, as they hadn’t seen foreign drivers competing in a club event since 2002.

1/8th Scale – Steven Jovanovic and Leigh Dytor, headed by Dave Smith from Racing Lines, made the trip all the way from Australia to compete in this event, while everything showed that the competition was going to be tough nobody could have predicted an outcome. Both drivers driving Motonica’s cars with Novarossi engines set a tough pace during practice. Steven TQ’d the event and Leigh was able to get to 5th place with the other top South African’s filling in the other positions. The race had a lot of excitement until Steven’s RX battery pack gave in, allowing Mugen driver Wayne Joelson to take over up front and claim the win.

2nd African Cup GP report

1/10 Nitro Touring – This class had 20 competitors in which the competition was as good as ever. Mike Wiseman driving a Serpent was the TQ man for the weekend but didn’t have much luck during the Sunday event, with his rival Steve Munslow driving a Mugen taking top honours during the Final race.

2nd African Cup GP report

Large Scale – In this race, the local talents shone through and the new layout seemed to have worked to the advantage of those drivers. Harm racer Barend Myburg taking first place, with Andries Oosthuizen with the Contrast in 2nd.
