RC Vehicles Word of the Day: Rudder
“A man without character is like a ship without a rudder.” — Karl G. Maeser. And what about a plane without a rudder, huh, Karl? And do RC trucks have no character? They don’t have rudders. OK, enough of the philosophical stuff. A rudder is what helps steer the RC boat or the plane or even helicopter — although on a heli it’s actually the tail rotor that does the ruddering (I made up that word). Control linkage from the servo to the rudder makes it move from side to side or up and down (or round and round or whatever direction it needs to go depending on the type of RC). Push a button or move a stick on your controller and it sends a signal to the servo which moves the rods that connect to the rudder and your little plane or boat turns left or right. For those of you stuck on land, it’s like the steering linkage on your RC car or truck that turns the wheels left or right.
