Toy Fair 2010 – Shepherd
Shepherd were showing off a number of new parts on their stand including this new chassis plate for the Velox V8. Made from a different material, it is identical in design to the standard part but is much stiffer making it ideal for racing on high traction surfaces. Other new items include a new radio box for the V10, answering requests by customers that have been looking for this to protect their receiver from crashes and splashes. As we announced before the show, the German company now have their own line of foam on road tires which they had on display and finally for the V10 there is now a complete range of optional springs. We were told that we can expect a set of brass weights for the V10 as well as a oneway axle that can be locked by inserting pins in the coming months.
Toy Fair 2010 – Corally
Dutch company Corally are present at the fair as in previous years and they are showing off their new 12SL 1/12th scale chassis that has been optimised for 1S LiPo. The new link car retains the same front end as its predecessor with most of the changes happening behind the front wheels. The new rear motor pod is now stiffer and more stable thanks to its machining, with the rear axle bearing holders now half integrated into the rear blocks further helping this. To play around with the positioning of the batteries Corally offer option damper mount plates that allow the battery to be place 5mm further forward for different handling characteristics.
The Phi 09 touring car has been given a few upgrades with the most noticeable being the availability of the new LiPo optimised chassis plate that gets rid of the 6 NiMh cell slots in place of 3 square holes that allow the user to mount optional 30gram brass weights into before mounting the LiPo stick pack. The new 2.5mm chassis is much stiffer than the previous chassis and for indoor racing there will also be a 3mm version available. Corally are also offering their customers to get the kit with the new straight wishbones or with the previous versions.
Other new items on their stand were the V-Booster, a small piece of circuitry that allows racers that use 1S cells of 3.2V to transform the working voltage of their older ESC to work with the lower voltage. Corally also were showing their new 5200 40C LiPo pack and IBS balance charger.
Toy Fair 2010 – Ultimate Racing
Spanish company Ultimate Racing have chosen the toy fair to introduce their new line of off road tires under the Pro Circuit name. They had two patterns on show but expect a third to be available before the line’s official release in March. All the tires will come in 4 different compounds, yellow (hard), blue, green and purple (super soft) and the patterns that were on display here at the fair were the Marathon and Square Impact. The former is good on hard packed tracks with very little dust, while the latter is good on high grip and wet surfaces. Ultimate will also provide wheel stickers with the sets of tires, which will be sold pre mounted in a pack of 4.
Also new from Ultimate is their rebranded fuel, Nitrolux. Having 10 years experience with their own fuel, this new look fuel is similar to what they had previously except it uses improved oils and additives as well as packaging the fuel in a new 2.5 litre gold can.
Toy Fair 2010 – GI-MAR
We bumped into new company GI-MAR in the halls of the fair who were keen to show off their new line of Novarossi based engines. A collaboration between French man Jean Paul Calandreau of JP Racing, who stopped with the production of his own engines last year, and Italian Giovanni Crea. Using Novarossi engines as a base they will introduce a complete line of top level hand tuned engines as well as high performance non hand tuned versions.
First up is the .12 Mig engine that features a hand worked, perfectly balanced crankshaft, with improved gas flow over the standard crankshaft. A hard black coating on the shaft improves fuel flow and it has been lightened and filled with red silicone for improved performance. The crankcase has been hand modified to remove ribbing around the liner, which combined with its 3 port liner and dished piston ensure good fuel consumption and power. The .21 On road Mig features similar work to the casing, but the crankshaft has been further optimised for optimum balance and additionally black coated. This 9 port engine is the absolute top of the line for on road gas.
In off road they have produced the .21 Mig buggy engine which has 5 ports, turbo plug and a flat piston and thanks to the crankshaft design has very linear power. The engine comes with a plastic carburettor and as with all the Mig engines features an o-ring below the button. The company will also release a similar motor for the Rally Game class as well as lower cost options such as the Typhoon 3 .12 engine that doesn’t have a balanced or coated crankshaft and comes with a flat piston. GI-MAR plan to also release a complete clutch set as well as NT1 parts as used by team driver Biagio Spataro.
