Toy Fair 2010 – PSM Racing
Aftermarket parts maker PSM Racing had their range of products on display here at the toy fair and are debuting some new additions too, including these new clutch bells. Made from aluminium, they are lightweight and offer the ability to mount your own clutch pinions using the threaded end and PSM intend to also plan to produce a suitable range of pinions. Other new items include the new range of brake discs, which use a new material, and will be suitable for various different cars.
For balancing your buggy and truggy tires, there is an update to their previously released wheel balancer that uses an aluminium base and fibre glass side plates to produce a low cost and lightweight system. Dual ball bearings on both sides and easy to mount balancing shaft complete this easy to use tool. A new range of universal wings, in black, white and yellow, offers downforce between a standard RC8 wing and the Pro Line high downforce wing and is made from an almost indestructible material.
For the Mugen MBX-6 there are front and rear shock towers made from a special mixture of 4mm carbon fibre, that uses layers of carbon and fibre glass to produce a slightly more flexible tower that can resist impacts better. Some universal mud scrapers are also made from 4mm thick carbon fibre and will fit almost all cars with the exception of the Xray 808. Finally there is a new set of 16mm big bore shock absorbers that are made from coated aluminium and supplied with medium hardness springs with others available. Sold in a complete set of 4 they fit the CLX and RC8 for sure and may also fit other chassis’s too.

Xceed have further extended their product line-up with the introduction of many new items at the show. Expanding their tire line, their are new 1/8th scale truggy tires as well as 1/10th scale off road tires to add to their recently released 1/8th buggy tire line up. Also for 1/8th off road were the company’s new buggy shells which will be available for a wide range of different brands of car. Continuing with the bodies, there is a new 1/10th scale 200mm touring car shell, which is a departure from the current release of shells in that it goes for much more upright side windows for improved cornering, as well as the previously announced 1/12th and 1/8th scale on road shells.
Xceed have also released complete clutch sets for both on road and off road gas cars, together with a range of ceramic bearings in various common sizes. Finally, there will be new setup blocks, droop & ride height gauges and a range of turbo and standard glow plugs.
Toy Fair 2010 – Various 3
Taiwanese car manufacturer EDAM were showing off a prototype of their new as yet unnamed 1/8th scale on road car. A complete overhaul of their previous car, with new chassis plate, radio plate, wishbones, rear body mount and braking system, it is again a conventional but solid design. They also are displaying their Spirit 981 Gold Edition 1/10th 200mm chassis, with gold anodised parts and supplied with many optional parts as standard.
Mega have their new line of DS4 engines on display at the Serpent stand, which on the 21 on and off road motors feature a new larger finned combustion chamber and both sport a new cooling head, which in the case of the buggy motor has been lightened with holes machined through the lower fins. Also for off road there is a budget 3 port motor, while for 1/10th on road, the new .12 DS4 has a new crankcase, different cooling head, new back plate and internally new timing.
Max Power had a small presence at this year’s fair, also on the Serpent stand and showed off their new off road engines, the MX5 and MX5B, which sport a new cooling head and balanced crankshaft. There is also two new exhausts for both 1/10th and 1/8th off road.

Sold in a new plastic orange drum, all their fuels will feature their new ‘High res’ additive package for better bearing protection and to avoid oxidation.
Toy Fair 2010 – Kyosho
New from Kyosho is their 190mm competition touring car, which we have seen in various stages of development over the past few years. Called the TF6, everything is more centralized on the car and it is LiPo ready and more durable than the previous car with stronger rear drive cups. The front drive system, which we got the first view of at the DHI Cup, uses steel balls to provide forward drive between the drive cup and front drive shaft yet wont bind under suspension compression. The car is set to be released in May.
Other new items on the stand include the MP9E, which is the brushless version of the company’s 1/8th scale buggy and which will be available with or without a Team Orion electronic set. In 1/10th scale off road the new Ultima RB5 SP sees the motor moved more towards the centre line, has slightly longer rear wishbones and is supplied with velvet coated shock absorbers. Not on the stand but expected to be released at the start of summer is the new FS 4wd electric buggy which is expected to feature a new carbon chassis for LiPo saddle packs and have the motor moved further to the rear. Finally, Kyosho have the prototype of their new Mini-Z on display, which is an all new 4wd platform that is designed to accept small LiFe packs for extended run times.
Toy Fair 2010 – Team Orion
Team Orion are showing off their new range of Rocket Packs that feature an integrated balancer socket, removing the need for a small wire and socket coming out of the pack allowing you to easier position your battery in the car. Supplied with the relevant cable to connect the charger balancer to the balancer port. Other updates on the battery line up include the new 5400 45c Carbon race pack, the new one cell 3.2V 4200mAh 45C pack and new 14.8V packs for 1/8th off road. For the E-Revo and mini E-Revo there is a large range of LiPo packs for each of the cars in a range of power ratings and which come with a range of different skins to customise the look of these packs. The Swiss company were also showing off their new line of 6.6V LiFe packs which go up to 3800mAh with 60C.
In terms of electronics, the company have their new Short Course combo that includes the Experience 2 Pro ESC together with a 3750kw motor, a combination that has been extensively tested in the Slash, the speedo including the relevant mounts for the car, and which will be suitable for all short course trucks. Carrying on with motors, the new Vortex V8 suitable for the 1/8th scale brushless class is a 4 pole motor that offers more torque than the previous motor.
Adding to their line of chargers, the new Advantage Twin Spec charger can charge 2 separate packs at one time and spreads the maximum output of 20A between the connected packs. Runs on 12V, it can handle LiPo and LiFe up to 6S and for NiMh up to 16 cells. For small LiPo packs of only 1S or 2s, Team Orion also offer the IQ, a simple wall charger that has a max output of 700mah. Finally in terms of electronics they have a new foldable LED bench lamp that is similar to others on the market apart from the fact that can be powered by 220V.
Regarding engines, we had ABI main man Adrien Bertin explain to us the new offerings from Team Orion, with the new range of Alpha engines on display. New for the buggies is the 3 port Alpha engine, which has been designed with help from the company’s US team drivers and provides lots of bottom end torque help partly by the use of the CRF crankshaft. This patented and balanced crankshaft is also used in the company’s 7 port buggy engine that has good bottom end as well as good top speed and like its 3 port counterpart is supplied with a ceramic bearing and all the new range of engines use a new aluminium carburetor with updated needles and isolation bushing that all helps with idle return. Team Orion have also introduced what they call the Discovery pack which has a 3 port Alpha with ABI internals but doesn’t sport the CRF crankshaft, however it is lightened, nor the ceramic bearings but is supplied with a pipe set and is sold at a very good price and will be limited to 300pcs.
For on road their is the new Alpha ABI 21, a 7 port engine with a machined carburetor for best tolerances and features the isolator like on the buggy engines. It sports a ceramic bearing and is aimed at having exceptional durability. The .12 Alphas has also been updated with a similar carb as the 21 and comes with a balanced crankshaft, the CRF crank not available on the on road motors just yet, but we can expect them in the future.
